I think you'll find as things rapidly change, that it's not enough for your favorite GAMES to live on, but they need to live on in a way that is recognizable to what you have known your whole life. Nintendo is quickly becoming the last true gaming company in the traditional sense. I think the moment they shift to some hyper modern company, selling only digital and streaming titles, is the day they lose their charm. 

Gaming is as much ritual/sensory as it is actually playing games.
