So I did the math an its 86.2 million shipped. Its no wonder Sony isn't so excited to reveal PS3 numbers because after PS4 launched, the console took a drastic nosedive in comparison to PS2

It did. Its legs aren't very impressive and I have to think that the numbers so far this year on VGC for it are very optimistic. 

But they do reveal the numbers, you just have to go digging for them.

PS2 sold 40 million after its successor launched. PS3 would be extremely lucky to even ship another 13.8 million in the next few years. This would seem plausible if Sony have it a price cut, but since the console an be found cheap in so many places they must now this wouldn't skyrocket sales.
