Nintendo have specifically said they needed to do more with western companies, not less. And when did Iwata become the CEO of Nintendo America? Right around the time that the first discussions with Crytek would have started, in this hypothesised situation.

As for how much Crytek would cost... your guess is as good as mine, but a $100 million deal could be a 10 year deal at $10 million per year, so it's not like it has to be anywhere near the value of the company itself.
