Well if people are willing to buy multiple different skus of a handheld (3DS, 3DS XL, New 3DS) than why wouldn't they also be willing to buy a version that let's them play on the tv?

people aren't willing to buy multiple sku's of the same handheld, they want a single sku. the only reason some upgrade is because a different model is released AFTER. the concept of the same console divided in a handheld and home console version is flawed because it takes away the value of both (people don't want to have two of the same console).
