Nintendo would make more money with 2 a gen. That's a good observation and I'm sure fans would want more story based games releasing.  

Sure, but they might oversaturate the market and have it backfire. Also, the advantage might not be so high (if they only make one Mario Kart game that liberates them to develop a different game which can sell consoles and sell in itself.)
