I think the DS was phenomenal and the peak of the HH only market.  I think the other handhelds released by them sold very well including the 3ds. I think the next HH will continue the decline and with no vita successor the market will decline even more.  

 

Nintendo can and will make money from their next handheld but it's a cul de sac.  There's no light at the end of the tunnel.  They will eventually have to try and squeeze into the smartphone market or go 3rd party.
