I was thinking the same the other night I have a theory. Maybe Nintendo decided to go "hardcore" this gen, and their hardcore best seller franchise is Zelda, plus the most praised. The GameCube had 3 original Zelda's for example. So they decided to focus on Zelda this gen.
But, this gen is their first HD gen, and as Iwata has already admitted, they weren't ready as they believe. In that sense, and in my opinion, they could be well refering to the Zelda HD/U developement, so in order to finish it as soon as possible they cannot release many original games, thus they have to release remake or similar games to have the fanbase on board meanwhile they keep hard work at Zelda HD/U.
That's why we have Ocarina of Time 3D, The Wind Waker HD and Majora's Mask 3D, Hyrule Warriors as a spin-off and A Link Between Worlds which is very similar to A Link to the Past. And don't forget that Hyrule Warriors is not first party.
Finally, for Zelda HD/U they want to back to its roots, and games like the ones that got the remake treatment are the roots for 3D Zeldas.
