For me the great evidence that the problem wasn't the name but Target audience moving on is the plummet of Wii HW and most SW torwards last years of the console.

If costumers have no interest in the product or gaming they wouldn't bother to even look to WiiU to end up confused.

How common people know if car x or y is the newer one? They have interest in buying a new car, go to dealer and there they will inform themselves (or be deceived) but if they don't care about it they won't even look. The ones confused are gift buyers. But that didn't stoped people in Europe of buying the Wii PlayStation instead of the PlayStation3 (PlayStation being sinonimous with console in some countries).
