I really don't understand that at all. The way that you play that you described is exactly how I play all the time. Hunched over, resting my hands/elbows on my knees.
People are getting way too confused, possibly when they see Nintendo's ads of people standing and playing. Like I said earlier I don't stand for anything but GH and Wii Sports. RE4, Trauma Center, SMG, SSBB, Zelda: TP, SvR, Madden, MoH:H2, and MP3 are all games i've played sitting down resting comfortably and i've never felt awkard or uncomfortable.
Edit: just saw the post about RE:UC, haven't played that myself but using the arcade mode in MOH:H2 I had no problem sitting down. I'm guessing your sensor bar setup isn't ideal and is why you are thinking that standing is a neccessity. Once you get it set up properly you can sit down and relax just like a "traditional" controller.
