Did you really make a thread showing off an MMO on PC set to max settings (cause trust me, that's what this is) just to take a cheap shot at a single player console RPG? Uhm...ok.

Xenoblade is Scifi, not fantasy.  And it handles that "alien world" space opera feel quite well.  It has great level/world design, great monster design, and some great armor designs. You may not like the character artstyle for the faces and that's fine, but they do have some great designs for other aspects of the characters. Xenoblade is massive and open so I don't know what you're getting at with that. It's not as big as an MMO but come on. MMOs are stretched to those sizes to allow for large player populations and enough enemy spawns to accommodate them. It has several alien environments with unique atmospheres and enemies. And XCX isn't even out yet so judging the *soundtrack* is a bit silly. And there have been some truly great musical numbers in Xenoblade's numerous videos. If you are more interested in FF than Xenoblade, congratulations, you have an opinion. But don't use such a silly comparison to take cheap shots. It's uncalled for.

Just to clarify something. FFXIV is an MMORPG on PC, PS4, and PS3.

I'm not saying XCX is bad, but if FFXIV looks good on PS3 then I think XCX needs to step it up.

But that trailer is not running the PS3 settings, trust me on that.  It's running max PC which looks far better.  I can't comment on other aspects of technical performance cause I am not familiar with FFXIV, but I will say there are noticeable differences between the strain of a game world made up of snapped together walled in sections like most MMOs and a full open world like Skyrim or Xenoblade Chronicles X.  I don't know if FFXIV is one of those or a middle ground.

True, comparing PS3 and PC, the PC version is better. The only difference is the PS3 version has less polygons, and framerates.

But this game in general is design in a way as a stand alone rpg which just happens to be online. The expansion "Heavensward" has enough content as a stand alone final fantasy rpg.

Look at the comparison here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDPbXAKxNdc

The PS3 version has lower polygons, much lower textures for environmental stuff (the natural environments take a massive hit), noticeably lower quality distant LOD levels, lower quality lighting, shorter draw distances for many elements, removed floral meshes in some environments, and overall looks rather muddy.  It's also easy to see in the closeups that the character models, while perfectly fine, are not super high polygons; this an MMO after all, but the characters are very well designed.

Xenoblade Chronicles X, on a technical level (so not considering art design) matches or surpasses the PS3 Final Fantasy XIV in nearly every single aspect.  The character models are pretty comparable - whether you like the art design of XCX or not - with XCX having sharper textures and better shaders and at times more polygons, although this is heavily dependent on what the character is wearing (especially the polygons; I think the base character mesh is perhaps lower or equal in polygons; can't say for sure).  XCX does have better lighting, though the lighting in general isn't going to turn any heads.  The environmental textures are much better.  Just look at 2:07 in that vid.  Floral meshes are superior in most instances with a higher density.  The LOD is where XCX really outshines it most, as LOD meshes are of much better quality in XCX, with details in terain being visibel for quite a long ways, though FFXIV does give it a run in the architecture LOD department.  In fact, draw distance in general is better.  And what we have seen of XCX gameplay, it runs better than PS3's FFXIV.   So yeah. XCX outshines FFXIV when you compare the most comparable version to it, the PS3 version. The games do have different priorities mind.  FFXIV clearly focused more on certain areas at the cost of others.  They also had limitations because of the MMO nature, but also may lack limitations that XCX experiences depending on the world structure.  I'm not calling FFXIV uggly, but the PS3 version is the weakest version by a sizable margin and that version doesn't match XCX, much less pass it.  But if you enjoy the FFXIV art direction more, more power to you; not everyone will like the same art directions and design themes.
