Forums - Gaming - FINAL FANTASY XIV - Inspiring Fantasy World.

I think this trailer deserves a thread of its own.

It looks so pretty, and so big. (no nasty thoughts) Heavensward will feature new theme songs by longtime Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu. He may even compose more. (i hope)

Heavensward is due out on June 23rd 2015.

Like it? Hate it? Let me know, discuss it.

Look at how open world and fantasy'ish this is. Look at the character models! Listen to the music. Isn't it amazing!! Isn't it inspiring?

edit:

XCX got potential

While I agree that FFXIV ARR is indeed a bigger, a visually superior game than what has been shown of Xenoblade X. This game is still an online MMORPG and is much more expensive. Also, it being way bigger than normal offline RPGs are to be expected as MMOs tend to get expansions every now and then which adds so much more to what is already a big world, which of course comes with a price( a monthly subscription fee). Oh and this is also a PC/Ps4 game as well. So yeah the two are a bit incomparable.

Did you really make a thread showing off an MMO on PC set to max settings (cause trust me, that's what this is) just to take a cheap shot at a single player console RPG? Uhm...ok.

Xenoblade is Scifi, not fantasy.  And it handles that "alien world" space opera feel quite well.  It has great level/world design, great monster design, and some great armor designs. You may not like the character artstyle for the faces and that's fine, but they do have some great designs for other aspects of the characters. Xenoblade is massive and open so I don't know what you're getting at with that. It's not as big as an MMO but come on. MMOs are stretched to those sizes to allow for large player populations and enough enemy spawns to accommodate them. It has several alien environments with unique atmospheres and enemies. And XCX isn't even out yet so judging the *soundtrack* is a bit silly. And there have been some truly great musical numbers in Xenoblade's numerous videos. If you are more interested in FF than Xenoblade, congratulations, you have an opinion. But don't use such a silly comparison to take cheap shots. It's uncalled for.

Just to clarify something. FFXIV is an MMORPG on PC, PS4, and PS3, and I think XCX falls under scifi-fantasy.

I'm not saying XCX is bad, but if FFXIV looks good on PS3 then I think XCX needs to step it up in terms of character artstyle.

But that trailer is not running the PS3 settings, trust me on that.  It's running max PC which looks far better.  I can't comment on other aspects of technical performance cause I am not familiar with FFXIV, but I will say there are noticeable differences between the strain of a game world made up of snapped together walled in sections like most MMOs and a full open world like Skyrim or Xenoblade Chronicles X.  I don't know if FFXIV is one of those or a middle ground.

True, comparing PS3 and PC, the PC version is better. The only difference is the PS3 version has less polygons, and framerates.

But this game in general is design in a way as a stand alone rpg which just happens to be online. The expansion "Heavensward" has enough content as a stand alone final fantasy rpg.

Xenoblade XC will step this up easily don´t you worry.

I am a huge Final Fantasy fan and I hope FFXV will be inspired by the original Xenoblade Chronicles a lot. I want this game since the first trailers resembled FFVIII which is my favorite game in the series.

But I am very concerned about the battle system since I cannot stand any Kingdom Hearts game because of that. And the overall quality of FFX-2, FFXIII and FFXIII-2 was not very high, so I dot not expect FFXV to be more than a mediocre game.

If you want a real 100 hour JRPG with a complex and fun battle system and dramatic storytelling, play Xenoblade Chronicles X which will be a far better overall game and will get a much higher metacritic sore.
