Why would a hard drive be crucial?
The lifeblood of MMORPGs is regular updates and expansions, which require significant storage space. Without these, it'll be a short, shallow, and most likely broken experience (compared to others on the market). There's really no way to do a "full" MMO up to the standards we're used to without a few gigs of spare storage.
