The games look awesome on the gamepad because it basically creates anti aliasing. Going from 4k to1080p also looks much better on a 1080p screen than native 1080p.
if i get 10h or so battery life and a sub 200 pricetag give me 1080p. If not then go for 960x540 because when played on TV ( please bring back a super gameboy!) Nothing will be blurred because 1 handheld pixel will be exactly 4 tv pixels. And a future 1080p handheld will also be able to show clean but lowres images. I HATE how DS games look all blurred on 3DS! Bordermode aso sucks.
Make it powerful enough so not a single game no matter what will run below native resolution and then add 4x anti aliasing or even more so there is no ugly steps
then even 540p is sufficient. ( will look even better than the wiiu gamepad because it will have a smaller screen.
