But really, Microsoft had the perfect oportunity to controll PC gaming and lost it chasing after Sony. I have to wonder how would things been wit MS being the leader of PC digital distribution.

Yep. They saw Sony as a threat so they decided if Sony cant work with them take them out. That forced them to spread themselves thin between PC and the console realm. A very tough place to be in. Thanks to Valve PC gaming will go further.
