With all that strong mobiles today that play games you can price handheld gaming only device around $300 and with that price you entered in market of home consoles prices, nobody will bought for $300.

Much more realistic price we will be around $200 and Nintendo knows that, like $200-250 for next hendheld and around $300-350 for next home console.

So, you would just skip the next handheld at the price of $300.
