But they adjusted their numbers to 18.5 million after Sony's last announcement. And if your calculations are correct they'll have said the PS4 sold 1.25 million consoles compared to 1.7 million. That's like over 26% undertracked for two months right? |
Well yes, for the 2 months to the end of March that is highly under tracked. But so long as LTD remains within 3% I'm happy. That's what regular adjustments are for. And when LTD is within 3% it means the historical weekly sales are pretty reasonable. Sales for recent weeks will always have a large error margin, especially while ioi is trying to get to grips with a new generation that has turned the last generation on its head.
Before now the real validity check was hardware shipments. Sony has been kind enough to give us sell through reports on a reasonably regular basis. Because when you are dominating like this, why not? Probably the most undertracked console so far is the 360, and despite all the pissing and moaning coming out from some people about 360 undertrackedness, the 360's LTD is still likely to be within 3% of actual. The pissing and moaning is only happening because PS3 and 360 are so close that such a small undertrack could be the difference between 2nd and 3rd place. If not for wanting to claim that bragging right no one would care. So care not about the week to week situation. Mostly keep a weather eye on the LTD.
