The original reason for the single save was because of the amount of nicknames you could give to pokemon took too much space for a 2nd file.
As for now, the games may be able to have multiple saves, or could be a similar situation to now, which wouldn`t be enough to have a 2nd one.
But a 2nd file would be good... : /
