The tablet is the only thing that stops me from buying one and I'm not alone.

The system won't work without the gamepad. If you are interested in the system buy it, if not then don't. These excuses just irk the hell out of me. It's by far the cheapest price point, is bundled with great games even at that price, has a superb game library behind it and is backwards compatible.

Ignorance is a huge factor when it comes to the Wii U sales. Almost everwhere you go, at least in my area of a city of a million people and it's surrounding towns, nobody knows shit about the Wii U. Futureshop, Bestbuy, Walmart, Gamestop, The Source, Target is hardly worth mentioning as it's pulling out of Canada but at all the targets in Canada I have been to (only 3) there wasn't even people that seemed to be assigned to a direct department. All of those people have known almost nothing about the Wii U. The only place I have been that a person knew much about it was at Toys-R-US, he doesn't have one he just like to keep up with all the information on all the consoles. This is not experience from every store of every kind in the entire city, however I do shop at a few of the busiest ones within and just outside of the city.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.
