Im Paper Mario fo the N64, I had a comprehensive list of Items and their cost in every village to check which had the cheapest item, I also kept a book on enemies that described their HP and ATK power, and I must have completed the game around 30 times, I once beat a big koopa that had 75Hp, 6ATK, and 7 DEF, and trust me that wasn't easy to beat
