With the unified approach, I believe Nintendo is trying to create an ecosystem where they can be more self-reliant and profitable without the need of the big AAA western titles.

I think they will release low cost hardware (sub-$200) with strong 1st party output along with strong Japanese 3rd party support, strong indie support and child-friendly Western 3rd parties. If they happen to get AAA western support, that's great, but since Nitnendo can't rely on getting it they need to find a way to have healthy sales/profits without them.


Will there not be a backlash from the hardcore fans who want AAA experiences? It does seem like a good idea.  I do get the feeling though that the handheld would do much better than the console.  If they go for a $200 console how powerful will it be?  Equal to the Wii U and ps3?
