I prefer trophies. My first console was xbox 360 last gen so I was introduced for the first time to an achievements system. I got interested in gaining Gamerscore and started the hunt for the highest Gamerscore possible. I was trying to get the maximum achievements for every game but then something hit me. I realized that in most games, it require a lot of times to get all the achievements so if my primary purpose was to get the highest Gamerscore possible, I was better off buying more games and get at least 50% of those games, this way I was able to get to 3000GS in no time without having to get 100% achievement in every game.
At that moment I didn't feel encourage to get 100% in every game, then xbox 360 died on me so I decided to buy a ps3 because I was mad at Microsoft. When I move to ps3, I kind of miss the achievement system but my pride wouldn't let me go back to xbox 360. Then Sony announced the trophy system. When the trophy system were explained, I got interested in getting trophies, but the thing that really made me like the trophy system even more was that not only I was playing to get to the highest level possible but this time around, if I really wanted a platinum trophy, I had to get 100% of those games no matter what. My first platinum was Assassin's creed 2 and wouldn't have gotten all the collectibles if it wasn't for the platinum. With the achievement system, I would have moved on to the next game.
This is obviously my personal opinion as to why I believed the trophy system is better but I really thank Microsoft for introducing it.
