The player might be harder, and that might be more rewarding, but a lot of the reward I get from playing online is the social atmosphere. If the people I play against are random, then that really is not fun to me. Why play online then, other than the added difficulty? Furthermore, random matches in video games tend to be poorly balanced. If I beat somebody it might be because I learned a new skill and was able to use it well or it might just be because they are just starting out in the game and don't know much. If I lose it could be because certain characters are unbalanced. This is a problem even RPG's like Pokemon have. So, again, I don't find it enjoyable without having the social atmosphere. There is no feeling of being rewarded for doing well in a fighting game, otherwise. |
I can't tell you the value of something. I mean, sure, it's fun for me, but I cannot describe it into words. Fighting games are like playing a game of chess, in a way. It's a mind game, through and through. Sure, they have stories, but that isn't the focus. It's not an action game where you have a set event you must carry out. No two fights will be alike. You are forced to adapt.
