Basically there are two crowds here: those who understand that new features cost money, and time to produce and those who don't. Why would Nintendo waste R&D resources on achievements, when they have plenty of other things they can put the resources into which will more obviously translate into revenue? Anyway, I honestly couldn't care any less about achievements/trophies. I didn't care about them when I played PS360 games and had active online accounts, and I don't care about their presence on Steam (and other services) with my PC games. The NIntendo games that do benefit from rewards have them do useful things (you can unlock content with them) - see: Metroid Prime 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles.
