It's actually kind of sad because if Nintendo went all-out and created a full-fledged Pokemon RPG based on the first season of the anime and got the voices, etc... this game could easily move millions of Wii U consoles.  Iwata has the answer he is looking for right in his own sentence but sadly I doubt Nintendo will ever recognize it.

Of course they recognize it but they also recognize that pokemon is their number one handheld seller. Full stop.

They don't want to spend an immense ammount of money on a wii u pokemon rpg when it costs them less to make one for their handhelds. Not to mention potential damage to handheld pokemon game sales that could occur.
