I just finished reading the whole thing and although I grew up on Nintendo and am still a staunch supporter I think they may be screwed. TV advertising not the way to go ... did the Wii U launch teach them nothing? I had hope on the advertising front when i heard they actually advertized the NN3DS alongside mature content (i.e. Better Call Saul & I think it was The Walking Dead) that I thought they might be waking up again, the answers as I interpreted them don't seem to support this. A pity really, I know a TV ad campaign is expensive but if you are looking to single-handedly increase the gamer population then you need to concentrate on current forms of entertainment to do so. I'm not saying that has to be all traditional broadcast TV but I would at least start advertising on streaming sites in addition to traditional TV.

Damn it Nintendo, you're going to back yourself into a Sega corner 10 years from now if you're not careful.

Come now the N faithful, help bring a ray of light back to this now falling member yep I said falling member.

I interpreted that as "TV advertisements aren't the be all, end all they once were anymore", and if your interpretation was correct, then the New 3DS wouldn't have gotten TV ads. Therefore I think that you are wrong.

I'd like to be wrong and he didn't say they were completely abandoning it but with a statement like "The notion that products sell well if we run big TV advertisements or make attractive (discount) offers in sales seasons is no longer accepted." sure sounds like they don't believe in it anymore.  I'm not sure how long you have been around but I've been playing since the 80's and from my standpoint at least, Nintendo does not advertise nearly as heavily as they used to. I see probably 10 to 1 adds from either Microsoft or Sony relating to hardware or software in comparison to Nintendo.  Again I said "I see" so I am talking strictly about what I am exposed to these days.

So your interpretation of "no longer accepted" is " "TV advertisements aren't the be all, end all they once were anymore"" ... ok I think your interpretation is incorrect although your statement is not. TV isn't as important as it once was now that we have the Net.  Remember I pre-date the Net.
