Splatoon will do it... There I said it. It's a critics wet dream. New IP with interesting original characters in an aging genre with new mechanics (controlling the stage is more benificial than killing Inklings) that seems to have a wealth of customization. If the game has a decent campaign length and a few online modes (or hell, maybe a new mode altogether) then it could pull it off. And you know what? I think it will.
