i recently watched a movie called "EXPELLED FROM PARADISE", it has by far the best animation ive seen in an animated movie, it has an actually interesting plot and it ended with the possibility of having some sequels, its not the greates movie ever but it was good and it has a lot of potential of having even better sequels.
if you have ever seen some Guilty Gear XRD gameplay, this movie uses the same technology of using actual 3d models with 2D looking visuals (sprites), think of it as having a 3d model and actually drawing a 2D picture on top of it, so it looks 2D but i gets an incredible boost in quality of animation, thanks to that it gets some incredible looking combat and camera angles.
Now if i had to say which are my favorite movies i would have to point out the Hellsing Ultimate Movies, Mardock Scramble and the Kara no Kyokai movies
