the reason the PSP did so well is that it was a very efficient multi-media handheld device in a time period in which smart phones were not yet prominent. I would wager just as many people bought PSPs for the ability to watch mini DVDs and internet cabapilities than that did for video gaming. Obviously today when Sony releases a handheld (cough the Vita) its users ALREADY have a smartphone in which they can do many multi-media things and will only be buying the handheld for gaming. Sony doesn't have a huge name in the handheld industry in terms of games specific for handhelds that are a must buy
