I'm one of the few who cares more about story, atmosphere, and exploration than just the pure gameplay. People think that's stupid or wrong (and indeed I'm already seeing people getting on your case about having a similar opinion), but games just have a lot to offer for different people. I can play a game with just-okay gameplay, but if it's wrapped up in an amazing story I'm going to have an amazing experience.
That's why I complain about modern Nintendo so much. A lot of people are fine with a game that's nothing but fun gameplay, but I play games for other reasons. For instance I value the exploration in Super Mario Sunshine more than the A-to-B platforming in Galaxy. Say that to the wrong person though, and they'll tell you you're wrong and/or stupid. Tell them you like Pikmin 2 over 1 because it has way more to do and has a bunch of extra features and items to get, same thing.
Moral of the story: people who purely like gameplay and nothing else are often incapable of seeing from someone else's point of view.
