I don't particularly like Gamespot, but it's not a bad site IMVHO, and I prefer sites that don't give away high scores too easily. Anyhow, such situations are the reasons why I prefer sites and magazines that give scores with 100 possible values (either going from 0 to 100 or from 0 to 10 with one tenth granularity, that's not really important, although I prefer from 0 to 100).
Going from 0 to 10 with one or at best one half granularity sometimes isn't enough to properly rank many different games in the higher end of rankings, where there could be many technically excellent but just a few outstanding, so giving 9.5 and 10 just to the best ones would push back a lot also the best of the rest, and push even lower games that are just a little worse without really being bad or flawed.
