That would be nice but the old controller would still have to forward compatible. I could see something like a more accurate controller released as a peripheral for a game. We have the Guitar Hero and Rock Band examples and Wii Fit. Paging Johnny Lee! |
I have been thinking about this a lot recently.
It would have to be backwards compat, and possible for "future" games to support the Wiimote I as well.
That said - I think its quite possible. There is a LOT that could be done to the Wiimote to make it even better - rechargable, better speaker, wireless nunchuck, "condom" built-in, more accurate, better max-distance range, etc.
Biggest issue would just be marketing - having to "explain" to consumers WHY there is a need for a Wiimote II - and why the original was "broken".
Its pretty unlikely at this stage - more likely for the Wii II, launching with WiiSports II + Wiimote II.

One of the smartest things Ninty did with the Wii, is "split" the tech into two - the controller + console. They now have the option of upgrading either one, while keeping the other.

Very interested in seeing what MS come up with - just hope its original & clever, not just a rip-off :P
