I know nothing about Cricket but I was in Melbourne this last Saturday, almost couldnt find a hostel because so many cricket fans had them all booked up.

Unlucky day to go to melbourne, as it was the first day of the tournament and it featured the Australia vs England. Anyway enjoy Australia. If you have time and money, go to Queensland, it is easily the best tourist spot in this beautiful country. I'd recomend visiting the Gold Coast, Mackay (to access the Great Barrier reef) and Cairns. 

If you do venture into the wild, just be mindful of the fauna. It is Irakanji season at the moment and the heat draws out Snakes looking for a cool place.
