Even with New 3DS, Nintendo expects to ship only 1.92 million 3DS family consoles for the quarter, so yes, it is exceeding demand because once more Nintendo and stores badly predicted demand, and shipments weren't so big to begin with. Though it being sold out is a good sign, it mainly is because of low shipments to a majority of stores.
