Depending upon the impact SCE wants to have with their first MSRP adjustment, which will be timed with the first major hardware revision with its reduced BoM cost, it wouldn't come as a complete surprise if they managed to sell the current 500GB configuration at $299, depending upon how much they were able to cut from the BoM of the new units, but a $349/1TB SKU is more likely.
The difference in price for an OEM 1TB HDD and a 500GB one is nowhere near $50.
I wouldn't be surprised if the 500GB SKU was dropped completely rather than having two basic SKUs at a $299/349 price tiering.
