Point is, a $400 device shouldn't even be selling as much as a $250 device. And 60 weeks into the 3DS life you could get it for less than $250. The PS4 is still the same price today as it was when launched. So that its even pulling the kinda numbers that the 3DS was pulling is an accomplishment. However, if you really want to make a fair comparison, try comparing the PS4 to other game consoles selling at $350-$400. At least that way your comparisons are being made from similar platforms and can be historically backed. 

$250 for a dedicated handheld gaming system is very, very expensive. $400 for a high-end home console isn't. Besides, it's all about perceived value, in any case. $500-$800 phones sell better than PS4, according to your logic that shouldn't happen.
