The Wii was the first console that I've ever bought myself, also the first item I've actually waited outside for a store to open for to get, and has been well worth getting early (Jan 21) simply due to how it's still difficult to find and the number of good games its had.
No more Heroes, Metroid Prime 3, Brawl and Twilight Princess alone have already given me about double to triple what my investment was worth, and Every other game I've gotten just adds to it.
In some ways, at least for the Wii, it was practically a cultural movement. It wasn't just a matter of getting the latest console, it was a matter of getting the latest experience. With the other consoles, you saw the graphics, and as long as you could share screenshots, you really weren't missing out on much. With Wii, the experience itself was utterly different. Some may have hated it, some may have loved it, some may think waggle is the same as button mash, but it IS DIFFERENT.
I remember I had originally thought that Zelda had a mirror image option to let you play left handed and as if it was still from the gamecube, but still using the Wiimote, but it turned out there wasn't an option for that. That was actually 80% of the reason is because I wanted to confirm that for myself; I was really involved in the debate and discussion on the Wii, but I was all my arguments were speculation based until I could get one of my own.
