Does Splatoon come with dozens of unique characters, each with their own play style and skill sets? No? Well then i'm sure you can see why that's a terrible example.
You're making the assumption that because you don't care about these things, that they're inherently unnecessary. Some of the disappointed people in this thread have been openly exited about Splatoon for months. Do you believe your opinion is worth more than theirs?
Regardless, this isn't likely to stop many buying and enjoying the game, but that doesn't stop them being aloud to express disappointment at it missing features and content standard to games of the same genre.
