@ Bold: It doesn't

3v3 is an option to allow other 4v4 modes.

Here let me give you an example on how Splatoon can handle multiple modes with bots included (italics represnts what the menu would look like):

Online menu: Select your mode!

Modes: Turf war, death match, capture the flag, Juggernaut, etc.

Select match type: 2vs2, 3vs3, 4vs4!

You've selected 4 vs 4  and wait for others to join. You see only 3 people show up. After a minute, a menu appears asking all players if they want to start the game with currently available players. All players vote "start game with currently available players."

You then choose your map, etc, and game starts.

@bold. A sensible idea. Not make it or break it but interesting nonetheless.

It would be even better if they let players host a room and allow players to join. The room can tell others what modes they're playing, the maps, and even how much players they want. Like Halo 1. Seeing how Mario Kart 8 online tournament mode has this, Splatoon should as well.
