Sorry to here your friends didn't see the light, but I gotta say your group is far from the norm.  Of all of the "Groups" of friends I have come into contact with there has been a MASSIVE shift towards playstation.  Examples:

-Everyone in my group switched to PS4 (Almost all were Xbox  or "Both" last gen)

-Most in my brother's group switched (Again most xbox before)

-Everyone in my cousin's groups switched (Was about half and half last gen)

-At my college there are WAY more Playstations around than there used to be.

^Sales back this anecdotle evidence up.

As for COD and such - check the database for game sales in North America:

-COD:AW = Slight Xbox win in US.

-GTAV = PS4 win by almost 2:1

-Madden 15 = Solid PS4 win

-AC: Unity = Xbox Win by 2:1

So really even in just North America the PS4 is selling on average more AAA games, and these games came out when the X1 was crazy cheap during the holidays.  We don't even want to talk about the slaughter that was Watchdogs and such.

Just wait for the Slim release at $300 with Uncharted 4...

Well, my cousins rommates sister inlaw bought a WiiU.   So, the WiiU will win the Gen.

I agree that many people have bought a PS4 in the 1st year, as proven by the sales total.  But, it has been proven that in the last 90 days, that things have evened out in the US.  Sure, comparing sales totals of games released before the sales surge of the the XB1 will show the disparity.  How the multiplats perform when they don't have a "marketing deal" will show a little more.  Clearly, the PS4 has a stronger list of exclusives in the first 7-8 months and will have an obvious sales advantage for that period.

One thing to remember from last gen, is that lots of people like to buy both consoles(or all three).  So, by purchasing the PS4 first, doesn't mean they won't opt to buy the XB1 later.

As far as the $300 slim happening this year goes... Why?   Why would Sony release the slim and drop the price $100 when they are outselling the competition already?  They may release the Slim, but it might just be at $399 with a game or $349 with a game.  Sony needs every dollar that it can get and trying to win a meaningless console war is not reason enough to throw away the $$$.

Why release a $300 slim?  Because it would make them a ton of money.  I love how so many people think Sony is just going to roll over and let MS catch up.  They always release a slim around 2 years after the initial release.  Why would they not now?
