It's the same i find with electronic music.A heck of a lot is released now due to how easy it is to put a digital file out there as opposed to a vinyl record 15 years ago.It can be tiresome to sift through the vast amount of crap to find some decent stuff.
For me i think steam is letting too many mediocre indie games like depression quest clog up the store but some of my favourite games last year were indies.Banished was great.
Oh and the indie shovelware problem is far worse on iOS, not that i ever really play games on my mobile.
