That's actually exactly what I think they'll be doing. I also think that they might also launch the home console with two SKU's; a digital only one with more memory, and a standard one with less memory, but a card slot.
I also have a theory about what they'll do with physical home console games and getting you to go digital with that and NFC, but that's for the Wii U successor prediction thread.
