sounds good, except the digital only part. I still like to have a box

18. Collectable boxed NFC cards (or an NFC device of some ilk) will be sold at retail stores with a "download NFC function" for specific games, replacing retail copies of games. It works the same as a download code. One use only. You put the card/amiibo/whatever on the reader, and you get the digital game.

That's what this point is about. I probably should elaborate, though. I think that Nintendo will still sell physical game boxes at retail stores, but instead of having a cartridge inside, there will be a small NFC device, very likely card. This card will act as a "download code" with the game inside. You touch the card to your handheld, and the one time only download code is used, giving you the digital game. The same idea may also be implemented using special amiibo and such.

I think this will be more of a failsafe more for children than for adults. Parents can go to the store and buy their children the physical card, and the kids download and play the game with it. This way, parents don't need to put their credit card info on the device and worry about their kids blowing all their money.

Obviously it's also somewhat good for those still wanting something tangable as adults. You can buy the game from the store like you always do, but just download it. Then you keep the box and extra goodies for your collection.
