Reviews are advertisements. Some publishers even give hundreds of copies away to reviwers for free because they have a bae. Indie games dont have the marketing budgets of the large AAA's. They are designed to attract the largest crowd possible in this day and age, promising a large scale spectacle.

I don't agree. Reviews are not advertisement. It would only be considered advertisement to me if the company pays the reviewer to give a good review. Otherwise, a review is just a review, a separate thing from advertisement. Advertisement is created to look at the good parts and tell you that you should buy the product. Reviews are there to weigh the pros and cons and determine whether or not you should buy the product. There's a clear distinction there. Reviews are important to the companies because they know that advertisement only is showing what the company wants to show, but reviews are coming from a third party point of view so it's easier to trust them when they say it's good or bad.

Youtubers don't get paid by companies. They are doing the same job that the other sites are doing, but they are getting paid via ad revenue. If people watch their reviews to make a decision on a game its free advertisement (As Pewdiepie said). They are getting paid by other people via ads on their page due to their popularity;however, advertisment is also propaganda, bringing or explaining a product to a person through media. The media they are using are primarily internet vlogs which are the in thing now.

As for companies paying for good reviews, I'm sure they've found a way around the lack of professionalism pertaining to that. I've heard of them inviting reviewers to lavish parties before too because they aren't supposed to be paying them.
