Well, if you look at it from that angle, then a subscription service for Nintendo is certainly not going to match the revenue generated from PS+ and Gold either. I was going by the amount of subscribers one could realistically expect on the Wii U and if we say it's going to be about a million like suggested in the OP, then selling 5m amiibos in any given year is already more than enough to beat a subscription service, nevermind that the profit margins are considerably higher on amiibos because Nintendo sells a plastic figurine rather than a service where they have to continually hand out games. Now add that amiibo functionality has the potential to create additional sales for games (because people might give them a second look to get more out of their bought amiibos) while a subscription service would decrease the sales of games (because people would hold off on buying when they can hold out until certain titles become available as part of the subscription). So in summary, amiibos are much more beneficial to Nintendo's bottom line which is what the OP was going for. |
My idea is more beneficial to you the consumer. I've played so many quality ps3 games and still have many to get through. All for a fiver a month. Maybe nintendo won't do it but a lot of fans would get great value from this.
If you are going to reply saying not enough games then I say make a system aimed at 3rd parties, entice them back and then set this up.
