Are Souls games hard for you even with video guides?

Why would I use a guide on my first playthrough?? The fun is figuring out the patterns and strategies. In saying that my strategy for DS later on became grab the biggest fuck off shield (either Large Brushwood or Tower Shield) and hide behind it before pummeling bitches with the Dragon Bone Smasher =D
