Yes, incredible game.
The first version of Paper Mario on 3DS was basically a spiritual remake of this game with its RPG elements, levelling etc.
But Miyamoto complained that the alpha 3DS game was too similar to the gamecube game so they completely modified the core of the game (they removed the RPG elements) to make it like it is now : an action game.
