LOL No. Microsoft didn't enter the gaming industry to be a white knight. They wanted to partner with Sony and Sony wouldn't let them, so they vowed to take them out. Half the reason why they feel threatened by Sony is because Sony had a computerized OS set on being the end all be all for the living room. Until the Playstation no brand was successful at accomplishing this in the console arena (or the living room arena in general). Sony changed the face of gaming being seen as a multimedia device. Sony in the 90's is the equivalent of Samsung today, which are one of Microsofts biggest competitors in the tablet and android market. Sony's bread and butter is becoming gaming these days.
Microsoft prints money from having a monopoly over the PC OS market. They could throw money at the Xbox until the sun sets for their competitors. The only way to stop a company like Microsoft is to put a dent in its world marketshare for its PC OS. Sony isnt taking anyone out of business, they only expanded the popularity of videogames. Sony didnt put Sega out of business, Sega put Sega out of business (the writing was on the wall). If you look at Nintendos sales since Sony entered the gaming industry, they've profited off of the Nintendo every time (still).
Microsoft wasnt stopping Sony from becoming a monopoly. If Microsoft succeeds at beating Sony into nothingness, the gaming industry could end up going to the way of the non-apple PC.

Less than 33% of their business.... get with the times. Your 90's early 00's view of the world is... as I keep telling you... out of date, becoming boring (every single thread virtually) and no longer relevant.
Sony Corp isnt a threat in any way shape or form to MS Corp. They are irrelevant to them.

Stop projecting what you feel about Sony's ability as to Microsofts judgement. The statements are there as I have shown them numerous times and you've ignored them to rationalize your own image of whats really going on.
All of what you're saying is assumption (outside of the percentage of of Microsofts business part), but I'll take Joachim Kempins words over yours. He was the head of the division and actually worked for them. He already admitted by the Xbox was created and why they eventually took issue with Sony. Thankfully for the People (US) Vs Microsoft, upholding the Sherman Anti-trust act, companies like Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome have a shot. Telling me that 33% of their business is based on the OS is obvious, but their programs are still put on that OS stock when you buy a MS product and there are also other variations of attaining said product. All of those split operations of which Microsoft reported its profits are based on the fact that Microsoft was forced to split its company apart because it was hindering competition.

you quote him every single time. remind me... when did he leave microsoft again?
Its ancient history.
Tell me exaclty how Sony threatens Microsoft in any way as of today...

I am not going by belief, I am going by what has been reported and documented. Joachim Kempin worked for Microsoft from the 1980's to 2002.
Its not ancient history.
If you don't have mission statement or reason for being...there is no goal to obtain. Think about it if you've ever been involved with anyone who has a business.
Anyone who has an OS with a multimedia device that sells very well it is a threat to Microsoft. Kempin said Microsoft was always kept at an arms length with Sony but always wanted to have a closer relationship. Obviously this has to do with them dominating the console industry which expanded the sales of formats and created the OS based console competition for the livingroom.
Essentially...if Microsoft couldn't partner with Sony on the Playstation, the Playstation is a threat.
Enter Xbox. As soon as the Xbox had launched a year later, Kempin left Microsoft.
Sony might not be doing as well as it did in the past (and thats fine), but to ignore the growth the console industry has gone through because of Sony's entrance into it is insane. Look at the marketshare of the industry before Sony entered it. Look at the size of it after Sony dominated it.
Microsoft caused the red ring of death by rushing the 360 to market because they had to beat Sony's development cycle. If that doesn't seem like the movements of a company that is visibly threatened, you really just dont want to see it.
"Second, MS was so focused on beating Sony this cycle that the 360 was rushed to market when all indications were that it had serious flaws. The design qual testing was insufficient and incomplete when the product was released to production. The manufacturing test equipment had major gaps in test coverage and wasn't reliable or repeatable. Manufacturing processes at eall levels of suppliers were immature and not in control. Initial end to end yields were in the mid 30%. Low yields always indicate serious design and manufacturing defects. Management chose to continue to ship anyways, and keep the lines running while trying to solve problems and bring the yields up."
