I'd beg to differ personally. I really don't know why anyone would bother paying so much for a regular XL now. Less game choice in the future, Smash Bros already showing a much better experience even if it's not N3DS only could well become the norm going forwards, though it wouldn't surprise me if the next Pokemon etc are now N3DS only. It's worth futureproofing in case at E3 or TGS etc., some N3DS exclusives are announced that you want IMO.
Add in the better screen and longer battery life and improved controls and Amiibo compatability built in and it's pretty much a no brainer, the only real reason to pick up the older 3DS stock now is if it's significantly reduced. (i.e. $100) and you have no interest at all in any newer stuff.
RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.
