I think that answered your own question, didn't it? If it 'carries no negative connotation with it', why does it matter if someone else who doesn't associate it with slavery use it? Frankly, for those who take offense to that word, shouldn't be using it themselves. the word "hypocrite" comes to mind everything I hear argument like this. As for me, I rather just respect the fact that that word will forever linked to slavery and stay the hell away from using it.
