No. GfWL didn't do a thing, and neither will Xbox. Valve has already established its position as the go-to place for PC games. Most of the people using the new Xbox service will be there because of exclusives, and there won't be too many of them.
Also, the OP was wrong about Steam having too few games on platforms other than Windows. The library is actually pretty good and expanding. Sure, many key titles are still missing, but Linux and Mac support are getting increasingly common.
